UPSL Academy West Region U17 Championship Cup Set for August 16-18 

The first-ever West Region Championship Cup is set to kick off this Friday at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, home to the LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer. Comprised of 6 top U17 teams from the California and Mountain West region, the event is part of the UPSL Academy Championship Series. 

The final set for Sunday, 1:30PM PST / 4:30PM EST, the 6 clubs taking part are: 

Downtown LA Soccer Club (Los Angeles, CA) 

Lions Football Club (Orange County, CA) 

Blast Soccer Club (Salt Lake City, UT) 

Madrid FC (Salt Lake City, UT) 

Gladiadores FC (Los Angeles, CA) 

Club X Academy Utah (Highland, UT) 

The group stage for the competition will begin on Friday evening, continuing through Saturday, with the semi-finals and Championship game set for Sunday. Downtown Los Angeles U17 head coach Alejandro Monzalvo spoke about his team’s excitement heading into the West Region Championship Cup opening rounds. 

“Being a part of the UPSL Academy and taking part in this competition is so exciting for our club. Every match in the UPSL helps push our players and lets us improve all aspects of the team. Competing for the U17 regional title is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved, and it drives us to achieve more and keep aiming higher.” 

Making the trip to Southern California from Salt Lake City, Utah, Madrid FC U17 Director Eddie Madrid explains what competing for this Academy Cup means for his team. 

“Reaching this Regional competition is an incredible feeling, not just about winning, but about continuing to grow and creating a legacy as a club. We are excited for what lies ahead, Madrid FC is a club with an ambitious vision, and this is just the beginning for us. We are coming here to with this Cup!” 

The first group stage match will kick off Friday at 7:00PM PST / 10:00PM EST between Downtown LA U17s and Blast Soccer Club U17s. Group stage games will continue throughout the evening and continue Saturday. Knockout rounds for the Cup are set to start Sunday morning with the Championship game set for Sunday 1:30pm PST. All games will be played at Dignity Health Park (18400 Avalon Blvd, Carson, CA 90746) and are free to the public.
