Division 2 serves as a vital training ground for clubs working toward meeting the minimum standards required to compete at the higher tiers, giving organizations the structure, support, and runway needed to grow into Division 1 and Premier-level operations. It is also an environment built for younger players to get their first taste of adult soccer in a genuinely competitive setting — without the heightened pressure and demands of Division 1 and Premier — allowing them to develop, learn the men’s game, and earn their step up when they’re ready.
“Renaming the A League as Division 2 gives our clubs a cleaner, more recognizable ladder to compete on,” said Nick Webster, Executive Vice-President of the UPSL. “From Division 2 to Division 1 to Premier, the pathway speaks for itself. It’s a structure that rewards ambition, hard work, and the clubs that are willing to push themselves to the next level.”
The new structure takes effect with the Fall 2026 season kick-off.

The UPSL was well represented at TST 2026, the world’s premier 7v7 soccer festival held at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. Known as the world’s most electrifying soccer festival, TST brings together top players, celebrities, and clubs from around the globe to compete for a $1 million winner-take-all prize.
City Soccer FC Head Coach and Owner Boris Jofre praised both the competition and the experience, saying, “This weekend we had a great experience, we had probably one of the toughest groups, facing off against Gerard Piqué’s Kings League All-Stars and Sergio Agüero’s KRU FC.”
Jofre emphasized the level of play and the opportunity for his players to test themselves against world-class opposition. “This level requires intensity and for you to always be at your best. We had several UPSL players once again on the team and overall, we had a really good time. We had a blast and we’re going to prepare and get ready for next year.”

The National Finals weekend opens Friday, August 7, with two semifinals featuring the Western, Central, Eastern, and Southern regional champions. Sunday, August 9, brings the third-place playoff followed by the National Final.
The four clubs arrive having battled through months of regional competition in one of the country’s deepest semi-professional leagues.
The host venue is a fitting one. Wallis Annenberg Stadium, made possible by a $5 million lead gift from the Annenberg Foundation, sits on the site of the historic North Athletic Field — home to UCLA Bruins soccer from 1967 to 1999. The 2,145-seat stadium features full grandstand seating, a Daktronics LED video board, and Musco Sports lighting. Drake Stadium with a capacity for 11,000+ fans was built in 1969 and used in the 1984 Olympic games. Both fields utilize natural grass and are regulation FIFA sized pitches.
